He really thought he could use the clout of this interview as a leverage to instrumentalise her against the people and especially women in his own country. He wanted to pit her against the women in Iran protesting for their freedom - and conceal the international solidarity from them. He wanted to show off his power and she said no.

tl:dr; He f*cked around and found out. (But Christiane Amanpour is always worth reading even at length… so you’ll know for next time.)

She’s interviewed me in the past, and is the real deal.

You know it’s great that we’re talking about how the film industry mistreated him and all but please everyone don’t forget that during all of this, during his depression, during all of the surgeries, during the blacklisting, his wife, the mother of his children, who knew the backstory for why he was down so low DIVORCED HIM AND DEMANDED A $50K/MONTH ALIMONY PAYMENT.

image

When he was at what he called his lowest point and went to the courts requesting that they lessen his spousal burden she fought tooth and nail to keep it claiming that his “income had not yet fallen below $3 million as was stipulated in their divorce settlement”, the judge agreed and he was stuck paying that money till January 31st, 2019, when finally he could stop supporting that parasite.

That is $6 million dollars, tax free, that she got off of him over those 10 years. $6 million dollars she got while he was broken physically and emotionally, which she KNEW about, and even tried to use against him with their kids in court which is why he didn’t fight hard enough against the alimony settlement.

So yeah, the Film Industry and the former head of the HFPA might be the true big bad’s of this story, but his wife was the one who kicked him the hardest of them all.
